"Dangerous Woman" is the lead single and second track from Ariana Grande's third studio album, Dangerous Woman. It was released through Republic Records on March 11, 2016.

The song debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. This makes Grande the first artist in the chart's 57-year history to debut in the top 10 with the lead single from each of her first three albums. "Dangerous Woman" marks Grande's seventh Billboard Hot 100 top 10 (and fifth to debut in the top 10).[1]

Background Edit

On January 17, 2016, Grande teased lyrics from the song on Twitter.[2] On March 1, 2016, she released the first snippet of "Dangerous Woman" onto her website of the same name. It was an a cappella clip.[3][4] She later shared an instrumental snippet of the song to her Snapchat and Instagram with the caption reading "6 Days till Dangerous Woman".[5] On March 7, 2016, Grande shared on her Snapchat a snippet of the song with the caption '3'.[6] On March 9, 2016, a preview of the song was featured in the Victoria's Secret Swim Special. It played for about a minute.

Grande debuted the song on Saturday Night Live on March 12, 2016. She released a recorded a cappella version of the full on March 21, 2016.[7] Grande performed this song at the MTV Movie Awards with Jason Robert Brown on April 10, 2016. Her brother, Frankie, made a reaction video while watching her performance.[8] On April 25, 2016, Grande also performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. On April 30, 2016, Grande performed the song at the Radio Disney Music Awards (RDMAs), though a large portion of it had to be censored because of Disney's largely-young audience. "Locked and loaded", "skin to skin" and "bulletproof" were all left out, and "bad girls underneath like that" was replaced with a second "all girls wanna be like that".

Music video Edit

The music video was filmed on March 20, 2016. It was released on March 31, 2016, at midnight on Vevo. The video is directed by The Young Astronauts and produced by Peter Williams and Jona Ward. Grande initially planned to release two music videos, because the song makes her feel two different emotions, for which she feels two videos are needed to portray. Visual 1 is more slow and sexy, whereas Visual 2 had to be more "cinematic".[9] She later confirmed that Visual 2 had been canceled.[10][11]

Trivia Edit

  • "Dangerous Woman" is the title track of the album.
  • Visual 2 was canceled. Before it was canceled, she said she wanted more of a "cinematic vibe".
    • In a Q&A, Grande explained that the cancellation of Visual 2 was because she didn't have time.
  • The song makes Grande feel two different emotions.
  • After recording this song, she chose the title of this track for the album because she said it "suited her a little more"
  • The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for 'Best Pop Vocal Performance'.
  • Grande used lube to get in the Dangerous Woman bunny outfit.
  • Charlie Puth did beatbox on the song but he was not credited in any form.

Lyrics Edit

[Verse 1]
Don't need permission, made my decision, to test my limits
'Cause it's my business, God as my witness, stop what I finish
Don't need no hold up, taking control of, this kind of moment
I'm locked and loaded, completely focused, my mind is open

[Pre-Chorus]
All that you got, skin to skin, oh my God
Don't ya stop, boy

[Chorus]
Somethin' 'bout you makes me feel like a dangerous woman
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout you
Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout

[Verse 2]
Nothing to prove and, I'm bulletproof and, know what I'm doing
The way we're movin', like introducing, us to a new thing
I wanna savor, save it for later
The taste, the flavor, 'cause I'm a taker
'Cause I'm a giver, it's only nature, I live for danger

[Pre-Chorus]
All that you got, skin to skin, oh my God
Don't ya stop, boy

[Chorus]
Somethin' 'bout you makes me feel like a dangerous woman
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout you
Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout

[Refrain]
All girls wanna be like that
Bad girls underneath, like that
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout)
All girls wanna be like that
Bad girls underneath, like that
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout)

[Instrumental Bridge]

[Chorus]
Somethin' 'bout you makes me feel like a dangerous woman
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout you
Makes me wanna do things that I shouldn't
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout

[Refrain]
All girls wanna be like that
Bad girls underneath, like that
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout)
All girls wanna be like that
Bad girls underneath, like that
You know how I'm feeling inside
(Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout)

[Outro (x2)]
Yeah, there's somethin' 'bout you boy
Yeah, there's somethin' 'bout you boy
Yeah, there's somethin' 'bout you boy
Somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout, somethin' 'bout you
